Noretonitazene is a benzimidazole derivative with potent opioid effects. It is better known as the active metabolite in a related compound (etonitazene), & has a similar activity to it.
It was first identified in New Zealand in 2024 after being seized by customs there from a package flagged because it was suspected to contain fentanyl.
